Hay fever and Allergen Support

While avoiding the allergen triggers to control hay fever, supplementing naturally with targeted herbs and nutrients, can also help to support the body’s healthy immune response to allergens.

Hay fever and Allergen Support Nutrients

  • Bioflavonoids include quercetin, rutin and hesperidin work in conjunction with Vitamin C and Zinc, to support a healthy immune response towards allergens, in the ear, nose, throat and lungs.
  • Vitamin C offers antioxidant support for the respiratory tract and immune system response.
  • Selenium is a specific essential mineral for health immune system function.
  • Zinc is a necessary mineral for general immune system health and maintenance.
  • Vitamin A works alongside Zinc to help maintain the integrity of mucous membrane health in the ear, nasal passages, throat and respiratory tract.

Hay fever and Allergen Support Tips

  • Keep windows closed during high pollen periods; use air conditioning in your home and car.
  • Wear glasses or wraparound sunglasses when outdoors to keep pollen out of your eyes.
  • Use ‘mite-proof’ bedding covers to limit exposure to dust mites and a dehumidifier to control mould.
  • Shower and change your clothes after you have been outside to wash pollen off.
  • Honey is said to be a natural remedy for hay fever because the bee pollen in honey can support your body against other pollens.

An allergy in this instance is when the body responds with an immune response to what would be considered a harmless environmental trigger, like pollen for example. The subsequent exposure to the same potential trigger or antigen, over and over, can then result in an immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibody, mediated immune response, which is when it becomes necessary to manage this type of response, for a healthy immune system function.

Supplements to assist with hay fever and allergen support include herbal extracts; Echinacea purpurea or angustafolia, Golden Seal (Hydrastis canadensis), Cat’s Claw (Uncaria tomentosa) and active ingredient, pycnogenol from Pine bark extract. Antioxidant Vitamin C, plus Bioflavonoids and fish oil nutrient, EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid).

Zinc is a mineral that supports a healthy immune response, especially when it is required by the body. It works in conjunction with Vitamin A, to help support the health and comfort of the mucous membranes of the ears, nose, throat and lungs.

Some typical, potential allergen triggers of hay fever include; pollen, dust mites, tiny flecks of skin and saliva shed by cats, dogs and other animals with fur or feathers, including pet dander.
