FAQ's

Astragalus root is a plant within the Leguminosae (beans or legumes) family, with a very long history as an immune system support herb and encourages a healthy immune response towards the challenge of pathogens. Its roots are in Traditional Chinese Medicine, in which it’s been used as an adaptogen for thousands of years, to assist with stress, immune health and general wellbeing.

Astragalus root can be taken in a standardised extract, in a tea or decoction, powdered root, tincture or ointment, all of which have their recommended dosages. For adults, it is suggested to take 250 to 500 mg three to four times daily.

Astragalus is usually taken in combination with other herbal supplements. When used appropriately, astragalus appears to be very safe and to have few side effects. However, very high doses may suppress the immune system and therefore it should be avoided if taking immune-suppressing medications.

There is evidence that astragalus may affect the balance of hormones in the body, however several studies have provided evidence that the growth hormone was stimulated with the use of astragalus, which may be especially useful for men.
