Why marine microalgae is best for DHA supplementation

Most plant-based sources of omega 3, like flaxseeds, chia seeds, hemp and walnuts, contain Omega 3 fatty acids in the form of alpha linolenic acid (ALA). The human body can only convert a small amount of essential ALA into EPA and DHA fatty acids which are the ‘final stop’ fatty acids in the omega-3 pathway. To overcome this inefficiency and ensure a usefully high dose of DHA for brain and eye health, it’s preferable for vegetarians to obtain Omega 3 from a marine microalgae source that provides naturally-derived DHA that the body can readily use without any additional conversion or processing internally.

Nordic Naturals Children’s DHA Vegetarian contains DHA from algae oil derived from Schizochytrium sp., a unique unicellular marine microalgae that produces primarily DHA with trace amounts of EPA omega 3 fatty acids. DHA is the predominant omega-3 found in the brain and eyes, and considered the more important omega 3 for brain and nervous system function and development.

Does not contain: Gluten, milk derivatives, artificial colours or flavours

Suggested Use

Recommended intake:

For ages 3+ years, three soft gels daily, with food, or as directed by your healthcare practitioner. Soft gels can be chewed or swallowed.
