What is Echinacea purpurea used for?

There are distinct functions to differentiate depending on the part of the plant being used. Gaia Herbs has extensively researched the activity of the seeds and flowers in several phases of development, and the roots through a grant sponsored by the National Centers for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. It is important to look for and use products that have been tested for activity and list either Alkylamides or Polysaccharide content on the label, as these constituents are relatively unstable and need to be prepared and delivered properly to maximise efficacy. The flowers, when harvested in their early developmental phase, contain Arabinogalactan Proteins and Polysaccharides. These chemicals support ongoing immune function and are best-used long term for immune system support. Harvested in the fall, the roots contain large amounts of Alkylamides and support a healthy cytokine response in the sinuses; they are best used at onset, not for long-term use.

What is Echinacea angustifolia used for?

Echinacea contains compounds called RxA Factors, which represent the alkylamide fractions known as isobutylamides. RxA Factors are found in the roots of E. angustifolia and purpurea and also the mature ripe seed of E. purpurea. RxA Factors help maintain a healthy cytokine response. RxA Factors supports the tissues of the sinuses and throat that are exposed to airborne stressors and help support an acutely challenged immune system.

Proprietary Extract Blend [Organic Echinacea (Echinacea purpurea) root, seed and aerial parts, Organic Echinacea (Echinacea angustifolia) root] 700 mg. Other ingredients: Vegetable glycerin, water and vegan capsule (hypromellose).

Suggested Use

Recommended intake:

Take 2 capsules every 2 hours up to 8 times daily at onset (2 to 4 days).
