Live well with Reishi
Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum), also known by its Chinese name Ling Zhi which means spiritual potency', has been revered for centuries for supporting longevity and spiritual growth, uniquely balancing mental, physical and emotional wellbeing. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) it is known as a Qi' tonic able to support the body's protective vital energy that maintains overall health and vitality. Modern research has identified it as a powerhouse of over 400 bioactive compounds giving Reishi its functional effect. The most abundant and well-known are polysaccharides compounds (including beta-glucans) and triterpenoids (known as ganoderic acids). Collectively, these contribute to Reishi's unique health supporting effects on immune, cardiovascular and nervous system function, supporting a healthy stress response, energy levels, quality sleep and overall health and wellbeing.
Reishi is a native of Europe, Asia and North America able to grow in a range of climates particularly tropical, sub-tropical and temperate areas with abundant hardwood trees. Yet despite its adaptability to varying climates and geography, it is an elusive mushroom growing on as few as 2-3 of every 10,000 mature hardwood trees, with oak and maple the most common. While all parts of the Reishi mushroom have unique health supporting benefits, it's the distinctly visible and identifiable shiny, deep orange to dark red, fan shaped fruiting body which is what is traditionally foraged and consumed as food and health supplement. Gaia Herbs Reishi mushroom contains only the fruiting body without any fillers, additives or starches.
