Product overview
Source Naturals Taurine 1000™ delivers a generous 1000 mg dose of one of the body's most abundant amino acids in a single daily capsule. Taurine is a free-form, sulfur-containing amino acid found naturally in the heart, brain, retina and skeletal muscle - tissues where electrical activity and energy demand run highest. While the body can make some of its own, dietary intake (and supplementation) helps top up the pool, particularly for those following plant-based or low-meat diets where naturally occurring taurine is lower.
- A daily ally for heart, nerve and muscle health
- Plays a role in maintaining normal nerve signalling and electrical activity of the heart
- Contributes to healthy fluid and mineral balance inside the body's cells
- Features free-form taurine for easy uptake
- A higher-strength 1000 mg dose in a single daily capsule
What is taurine?
Taurine (2-aminoethanesulfonic acid) is a non-protein amino acid, meaning it isn't used to build the body's tissues like other amino acids. Instead, it floats freely in cells where it plays a structural and regulatory role. It's one of the most abundant amino acids in the brain and is highly concentrated in the heart, eyes and muscle tissue. Dietary sources include meat, fish and dairy, which is why vegetarians and vegans tend to have lower circulating levels.
Why supplement?
Taurine acts as an osmolyte, helping regulate cell volume and the movement of electrolyte minerals like calcium, potassium and sodium in and out of cells. It also contributes to the formation of bile salts, which support normal fat digestion. As such, it's a quiet workhorse behind a range of everyday body functions: heart rhythm, nerve signalling, muscle contraction and the body's energy cycle.
