The 14 full spectrum enzymes work to supercharge digestive processes, breaking down the widest range of foods to support more effective nutrient absorption for efficient metabolic function. Additionally, the inclusion of specialised enzymes for potentially troublesome food groups helps to tame tummy troubles in those with enzyme deficiencies.

Specialised support for food intolerances

Gut Digest features a powerful blend of high potency enzymes designed to support individuals with intolerances to gluten, dairy (including milk sugar lactose and dairy protein casein) and phenols (naturally occurring plant chemicals, such as salicylates). Food intolerances or sensitivities (NOT the same as food allergies which is an immune-mediated response*) often stem from an enzyme deficiency, as specific enzymes are needed in the body to break down different food nutrients and plant metabolites.

Gluten & dairy intolerance

• Prolyl endopeptidase – is the standout enzyme superstar in the formula, exclusive to Gut Digest, that specifically targets and neutralises problematic gluten peptides in gluten-containing grains such as wheat, barley and rye that can trigger food sensitivity reactions*.
• Dipeptidyl Peptidase (DPP-IV) – is another specialised enzyme that targets both gluten and casein proteins, since gluten is structurally similar to casein, with DDP-IV facilitating the breakdown and digestion of both proteins that may be problematic for those with enzyme deficiencies*.
• Lactase - digestive enzymes are essential for breaking down lactose, the sugar found in milk. Lactase enzyme deficiency is at the root of lactose intolerance, so supplementing with lactase enzymes supports the digestion of lactose in dairy products, making it easier for individuals to enjoy dairy foods without issues.

*Individuals with coeliac disease or milk allergies should still avoid these foods, though enzymes can help if milk or grains containing gluten are inadvertently ingested.

Phenol and salicylate sensitivity 

• Xylanase – supports the breakdown and digestion of fibre-rich foods, aids vitamin recovery and assists with an intolerance to phenols. Phenols, including salicylates, are beneficial plant compounds found in healthy foods such as fruits vegetables, nuts and seeds that contribute positive gains to human health. However, ‘too much of a good thing’ can be a bad thing for some people who experience difficulty in breaking these substances down in the body.

High fibre, plant-based diets

• Cellulase blend, phytase & hemicellulose – are fibre digesting enzymes that help to unlock the nutrients from cellulose plant fibres. Cellulase blend breaks down cellulose (which makes up the cell wall of plants) to improve nutrient availability in vegetables. Phytase reduces phytic acid in grains, increasing mineral bioavailability; while hemicellulase breaks down hemicellulose (another component of plant cell walls) to support nutrient absorption.

Complete macronutrient digestion

Gut Digest contains the complete spectrum of carbohydrate, protein and fat digesting enzymes needed to ensure optimal digestion of foods and absorption of nutrients into the body.

• Protease blend – combines various proteolytic enzymes, or proteases, effective at a range of pH levels found throughout the digestive tract to transform proteins into essential amino acids, vital for digestion.
• Amylase blend, glucoamylase, maltase, alpha galactosidase & invertase – support the breakdown of dietary carbohydrates into simple sugars for absorption with a range of amylase enzymes facilitating this process. These include glucoamylase to break down starches into glucose, maltase which converts maltose (malt sugar) to glucose, alpha galactosidase that targets gas-forming carbohydrates in legumes, and invertase which transforms sucrose (table sugar) into glucose and fructose.
• Lipase blend – lipase enzymes are crucial for breaking down dietary fats and oils into fatty acids for absorption. Lipase blend combines various lipase enzymes effective in a variety of pH environments to support optimal nutrient absorption.

Suggested Use

Recommended intake:

Ages 14+: Take 1-2 capsules with each meal. More may be taken as needed. If symptoms persist, please consult your healthcare practitioner.

Dosing Tips:

• Digestive enzymes are best taken before meals to maintain gut health and effective digestion.
• Enzyme needs can vary based on factors including diet, amount of food consumed, age and digestive health. Not everyone requires 2 capsules with every meal. A practical approach is to start with 1 capsule per meal for a few days. If desired benefits – such as smoother digestion, regular bowel movements, consistent energy or sleep support – are not achieved, increase to 2 capsules per meal.
• Best taken in capsule form. Capsules may be opened and added to 1 tablespoon of food if mixed well so as not to irritate the mouth or throat.
• This product is suitable for ages 14+ and up. Younger children usually consume smaller meals and do not face the same digestive issues as adults, so 1 capsule is generally sufficient for them.
